How to Send Encrypted Email?

There are two ways to send encrypted email. The walkthrough will be for outlook using the barracuda email filter plugin. However if sending from a mobile device or another outlook client that does not have the plugin installed you can follow the bypass method.

Bypass Method

The bypass method will work for any MSLCC email account which is configured on any device.

  1. Compose a new email
  2. enter the To: address normally
  3. For the subject first enter Secure: (not case sensitive, but must contain ending: space character is optional after the :)
  4. After Secure: you can enter any normal subject text you desire
  5. Compose your message normally, any attachments can be added as well
  6. Send the message.
  7. The recipient(s) will receive an email stating they have a new secure message to view. They will be given a link to login to Barracuda's Secure Webmail Portal. If they have not created a password they will be given steps to do so. If they already have a password for the service they will be asked to login. After login they will see your message. They will also be able to review their unique secure inbox which will contain any additional secure messages they may have received.

Bypass Examples




Outlook Plugin Method

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Compose a new email by clicking “New Mail”
    Example:
  3. Enter the To: address normally
  4. Enter the Subject normally
  5. Compose your message normally, any attachments can be added as well
  6. Click the “Encrypt Message” button in the ribbon menu of the new message window
    Example:
  7. Send the email once complete
  8. The recipient(s) will receive an email stating they have a new secure message to view. They will be given a link to login to Barracuda's Secure Webmail Portal. If they have not created a password they will be given steps to do so. If they already have a password for the service they will be asked to login. After login they will see your message. They will also be able to review their unique secure inbox which will contain any additional secure messages they may have received.
