Last Updated 3 years ago
IMPORTANT
MSLCC IT cannot and will not maintain or set the volume on any iOS device on your behalf. This is designed by Apple to be a user preference and not to be set administratively. Therefore MSLCC IT will reference this article and close any tickets related to setting volumes or devices “not ringing”.
There are a few methods for toggling the volume on an iOS device. Staff are responsible for checking and maintaining the desired and appropriate volume level for their required tasks. There are 4 tasks, all of which you must complete, to ensure the device will ring.
Task 1: Set Ringer Volume
- Open the “Extras” folder on the homescreen
- Select the “Settings” App
- Select the “Sounds” sub menu
- a. Ensure the pictured slider is set to the desired level
b. Also to enable the volume buttons to control the volume via the volume buttons on the side of the device ensure the “Change With Buttons” toggle is set to ON
c. You also need to make sure that the tones for “Ringtone” and “Text Tone” are NOT set to “None”
Task 2: Check Silence Switch
Note1:Some cases cover the switch completely, in these cases you can toggle the switch with the mechanism on the case. It will be located in the same area, only the switch may look different on these cases.
- Find the side of the device which contains the volume buttons
- Locate the silence switch pictured below.
- Ensure this is set to the ON position.
Note2:Some newer iPads do not have this switch. If you are unable to find the switch on the device, check the following:
- Swipe down from the upper right edge of the screen to open the Control Panel.
- Ensure the Bell Icon is included in this menu
- Ensure the bell option is NOT disabled. (If disabled the bell icon will be red with a slash through it)
Task 3: Volume
- Find the side of the device which contains the volume buttons
- Turn the volume up or down to the desired level
- As you toggle the volume, the volume level will be shown on screen.
- If the volume buttons seem to have no effect on the ring volume, repeat Task 1, ensure the “Change With Buttons” option is on in Step 4b
Task 4: Application Notifications
- Open the settings app
- Scroll to the bottom of the settings sections. Here you should find apps installed on the device.
- Select the application you are looking to receive notifications from.
- Select the notification section under the app
- Ensure the "Allow Notifications" switch is enabled.
